Diagnosis & care

Surgical and Non-surgical treatments for hip and knee conditions

Surgery is never the automatic answer. Mr Oni begins with a thorough assessment and an accurate diagnosis, then recommends the option best suited to your condition, your lifestyle and your goals, from non-surgical care through to joint replacement. Whether you are exploring non-surgical options, considering surgery, or seeking a second opinion, you are in the right place.

HIP REPLACEMENT & REVISION SURGERY

Depending on your condition, such as hip bursitis or hip arthritis, Mr Oni may recommend conservative treatments through to first-time hip replacement or complex revision surgery, including cases referred by other surgeons. Mr Oni is the regional lead for the revision hip service, leading the MDT at East Kent Hospitals.

Frequently asked questions

No. Surgery is never the automatic answer. Mr Oni begins every case with a thorough assessment and, wherever the evidence supports it, recommends non-surgical treatment first. Many patients improve with targeted physiotherapy, activity and lifestyle changes, pain management or injection therapy such as Arthrosamid. Surgery is only recommended when non-surgical options are unlikely to give enough relief, or when there is a clear mechanical problem that needs operative treatment.

Mr Oni offers the full range of hip and knee surgery. For the knee, that includes keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery, partial knee replacement, total knee replacement and robotic-assisted knee replacement. For the hip, it includes total hip replacement and complex revision surgery. Non-surgical options, such as Arthrosamid injections, are also available for suitable patients. The right option depends on your diagnosis, the severity of the problem and your goals, all of which Mr Oni explains at your consultation.

Depending on the diagnosis, non-surgical options may include targeted physiotherapy and rehabilitation, activity modification, pain management and advanced injection therapies. For knee osteoarthritis, Mr Oni offers Arthrosamid, a long-lasting injectable treatment. These approaches can relieve pain, improve function and, in many cases, delay or avoid the need for surgery.

Every plan is built around the individual. Mr Oni reviews your symptoms, examination findings and imaging, then explains your diagnosis and each suitable option, including the benefits, risks and likely outcomes. The aim is a clear, personalised plan that fits your diagnosis, your lifestyle and your long-term joint health, with you fully involved in the decision.

Mr Oni focuses on meniscal injuries, cartilage damage, arthritis-related instability and mechanical knee problems. He does not routinely carry out acute ligament reconstruction such as ACL surgery. He is happy to assess complex knee symptoms, particularly where a meniscal tear or early arthritis may be involved, and to advise on the right next steps.

Mr Oni's practice is dedicated exclusively to adult hip and knee care. He does not treat children or adolescents, manage emergency trauma such as fractures, or treat other joints such as the shoulder, spine, hand or foot. If your symptoms fall outside this scope, he will give honest guidance and recommend a trusted specialist colleague.
